MOOC

INFLANET – Training European Experts in Inflammation: from the molecular players to animal models and the bedside.

MOOC INFLANET COURSE

Learn about inflammation and techniques ranging from recombinant protein expression to imaging analysis and mathematical models.

  • Duration : 4 weeks

  • Effort :  3 hours
  • Rythme : 45 minutes/week

  • Language : English

What you will learn

  • How to express and purify recombinant protein and the methods used in structure biology to understand the function of the inflammatory mediator at the molecular level.
  • How to identify the cellular actors of inflammation in vivo.
  • The principles of image acquisition and image processing, to understand the nature of data from this image techniques and the latest approaches of mathematical modelling.
  • Medical applications in inflammatory research, techniques on segmenting and tracking cells from inflammatory videos.

Description

The present MOOC introduces the trainees to experiments involving structural characterization of inflammatory mediators, the use of the zebrafish and mouse model, imaging analysis and mathematical modelling.

Trainees will also be introduced to the zebrafish and the mouse model to high resolution and intravital imaging, such as multiplex and 2, 3 and 4 photon microscopy.

The MOOC captures both general introduction and more specialized tools and concepts.

Format

The MOOC is made of 4 weeks of electronic lessons.

Prerequisites

The target audience are :

  • Students in their first years at the University, before graduating a Bachelor, in order for them to be introduced to inflammation issues before their first laboratory internship.
  • Master students interested in these disciplines or graduated students and researchers that want to implement research projects in these disciplines.

Prerequisite: basic knowledge in biology.

Course plan:

WEEK 1: STRUCTURE OF THE INFLAMMATION SENSORS

WEEK 2: CELLULAR ACTORS OF INFLAMMATION IN VIVO

WEEK 3: IMAGE ANALYSIS

WEEK 4: PATTERN RECOGNITION AND MEDICAL APPLICATION
